After a highly successful 2008 Miami Dance Music Awards event in which 1500 people attended, the Miami Dance Music Awards returns on Friday August 27th 2010.
Miami Dance Music Awards & Honors were created by Joe Granda, President of Granda Entertainment, LLC, as a need to honor those in who touched, influenced and took part of the development of the “Miami Sound” after Three (3) years of producing the Latin Dance Music awards honoring National DJ’s during the WMC event. Granda’s heavy involvement in The Miami Music scene began in 1973 as the lead singer of The 70’s “Open House” band Majesty, and has been at the forefront of just about every musical movement in Miami, (for more info on Joe Granda go to www.grandaentertainment.com ) . Joe teamed up with Rigo Garcia of 305disco to co-produce the event. Rigo has also been part of the Miami Sound Movement since the early days of Disco working with many Internationally known artists, such as Run DMC, Viola Wills, Tears For Fears, Eric B & Rakim, The Village People, Lime, Hazell Dean, George McCrae, 2 Live Crew and many others as well as working with many well known local South Florida artists, Secret Society, Expose, Erotic Exotic, Debbie Deb and many more. The awards were created to acknowledge the accomplishments and contributions of South Florida DJ’S, Club Owners, Producers, Recording Artist, Promoters, Radio Personalities and South Florida music & entertainment legends who’s creative efforts and imagination laid down the sight and sounds which helped transform Miami & South Florida to the Dance Music Mecca, that it is today, and helped Shape the MIAMI SOUND.
This year’s participants include a diverse and talented group of award recipients from an array of musical backgrounds and genres.
LEGENDS AWARDS
Antonio “Polar Bear” Moreno
Tony Moreno, formed the first Latin record Label in Miami as GM of Top Hits Records, and then his own Label Musical Productions he signed and develop acts, such as Danny Rivera, Frankie Ruiz, Conjunto Universal, Johnny Ventura, Tito Rojas, Majesty and many more.
Peter Fernandez former lead of of Miami's most popular Dance 70's bands, Coke & The Antiques who topped the charts with his classic " Sabor A Mi " smash
Hansel & Raul
There's nothing that can be said that hasn't been said already about the Salsa / Tropical music Icons, Hansel & Raul.
From the beginning of their careers in New York City as the founders of the heavily influenced strings and woodwind Charanga '76 band, Hansel y Raul are hands down the greatest " Dance Band " to ever show up on the shores of Miami.
With more than 12 albums recorded, including their 1986 double platinum selling " La Magia " album, Hansel y Raul have toured the world while setting record attendance in many countries with unprecedented records sales worldwide.
Recognized for such smash hits " Maria Teresa y Danilo, " Con La Lengua Afuera " , " Soy ", Kuku Cha Ku Cha " and a slew of others had gained them the honor of performing for former President Ronald Reagan along side of Tina Turner, Barry Manilow and Tony Bennet as well as being invited to Disney's 15th Anniversary TV special in which over 160 million viewers tuned in to see. The duo has had many awards including Grammy nominations, Premio Lo Nuestro Award, and George Busch Latino Excellence Award, World Salsa federation Awards and many more..

Carlos Oliva
Miami's favorite nephew Carlos Oliva with over 40 years under his belt in the music industry, has seen and done it all.
From touring the world, performing on the nationally televised Mike Douglas show to headlining at the infamous " Forge " restaurant in Miami Beach and on global stages, Carlos Oliva along side of " Los Sobrino's Del Juez / The Judges Nephews " is synonymous of what is now known as " The Miami Sound "
Carlos Oliva's fusion of popular American music combined with rhythmic Cuban sounds propelled his stardom beyond a Latino fan base, movie star Connie Stevens and her managers fascination with Carlos Oliva & The Judge's Nephews personally arranged for Carlos Oliva and his band to perform some of Vegas's most important venues while Sammy Davis Jr. coined the phrase " Here Comes The Judge ".
Best known for his hits Pelotero La Bola", "Ekelecuá", "Dime Si Te Gusto", "Vehiculo", "Yayabo" and others, Carlos Oliva has inspired and worked with many well known artist including Gloria Estefan.
Although Carlos Oliva is known for his Tropical / Cuban rhythms, he has recorded an eclectic array of songs and sounds in both Spanish & English, including a Disco gem entitled " Disco mama ".
Carlos Oliva has written the theme for such popular Spanish language TV shows, " The Cristina Show " and " Ocurrio Asi " , both of which earned BMI honors.
Other credits include " The Sevec Show ", " Padre Alberto " and " Casa Club Magazine ", his credits also includes the music for important TV campaigns for " Univision " ," Telemundo ", and " Pegate Al 23 " an affiliate of " Univision " which received an Emmy.
DJ Awards
Bob Rosenberg
An accomplished and well respected figure throughout South Florida who's Hot Mixes during his time at Hot 105.3 FM are still talked about till this day are considered to be some of the most creative mixes ever heard throughout South Florida's airwaves.
Bob Rosenberg was not only a big hit as a DJ on Hot 105, but even a bigger hit as an artist when forming and leading the legendary Pop / Dance band " Will To Power " who went on to become one of Miami's most recognized groups while topping both the Dance and Pop charts with such hits as " Dreamin ", " Fading Away ", " Say It's Gonna Rain ", " I'm Not In Love " and their monster hit " Baby, I Love Your Way / Freebird.
Ciro Llerena
When you say Disco in Miami, one name comes to mind, Ciro Llerena.
As a long standing DJ and figure in Miami's dance scene, Ciro Llerena's reputation as a DJ is well known having been the DJ for the legendary " Club Casanova's " in Hialeah, Ciro Llerena was not only a force to be reckon with behind the turntables, but also in the studio as a mixer and record consultant for many hits including Company B's " Fascinated " & " Full Circle ", Hazell Dean's " Always Doesn't Mean Forever ", Expose's " Point Of No Return " and many more.
Jammin Johnny Caride
Where's the party? The answer is easy, wherever Jammin Johnny is at!
Johnny Caride's has " Jammed " all over South Florida's airwaves for many years with his live mix shows on Power 96 to then becoming an Promotion Director, on-air mixer, Muisc Director and personality for El Zol 95.7FM.
Though his rigorous work and efforts Jammin Johnny has become one of the most recognized names in South Florida not only as an on air talent, but also as one of the owners of one of Miami's top DJ services " The Party Players ".

Al " El Africano " Fuentes ( Zol 95.7)
Al Fuentes has more than 20 years of experience in the communications industry. He graduated from Miami-Dade College in 1978, and began his career at various radio stations in the city of Miami. In 1992, Fuentes joined the SBS family as Programming Director and a host of the #1 radio morning program in Miami. He has held a long and successful career with SBS ever since.

Timmy Thomas
Smooth as silk Timmy Thomas is a staple in Miami's music scene for nearly 4 decades who climb his way to the top of the charts with the hit " Why Can't We Live Together ".
Thomas not only has worked with fellow legendary Miami artist Gwen McCrae, but also helped produced " A LaFace Family Christmas " for LaFace records as well as working and recording with international star Joss Stone.
Clarence " Blowfly " Reid
It's a bird, no, it's a plane, not even close, it's the cape crusader Blowfly!
After a successful 40 plus year career ( and counting ) the man known as the original dirty rapper " Blowfly " is none other than mild manner writer / producer Clarence Reid.
You'd need a book to fill Reid's accomplishments, and a bigger book to log the insanity that is his alter ego Blowfly's wild and unpredictable adventures.
Unknown to many, Reid has penned and produced some of the biggest songs to come out of Miami, such as Betty Wright's smash hit " Clean Up Woman ", as a writer & producer Reid has worked with such legendary artist as KC & The Sunshine Band, Gwen McCrae and many others while topping the charts as himself " Clarence Reid " with such hits as the 60's smash " Nobody But You Babe " and 70's " Funky Party ", to name a few.
The Weird World Of Blowfly and his cult status and following have lead him to work with Flea of the " Red Hot Chili Peppers " & " Fishbone " in 1991.
Blowfly's bizarre recordings have been sampled by the likes of The 2 Live Crew, The Jurassic 5, Wu Tang Clan, DJ Quik, Method Man & Redman, DMX, Beyonce, Puff Daddy, Scarface, Slim Thug, Ice Cube, Da Brat and others.
Ray Martinez
Martinez is a Cuban American dance music icon, songwriter, musician, singer from the late 1970s, who later became a record producer, engineer, and record label owner/executive. He is well known within the industry for having helped originate what has become known worldwide as the "Miami Sound", created out of the biggest independent record label of that era, T.K. Records.
Martinez best known for some of the biggest and most recognized Disco's hits of the 70's such as Amant's " Hazy Shades Of Love ' , " If There's Love " and " In New York " continues his already illustrious career by continuing to work out of his Paris International Studios in Miami.
He used his innovative sound to create " Paris International Records ", his own independently owned label, which released many 80's dance hits such as Jill's " Match Made Up In Heaven", Maga's " Bi- Pushin ", Evelyn Thomas's " High Voltage " and others.
The Voice In Fashion
What started as a studio group soon found themselves in high demand for live performances.
The Voice In Fashion's 1986 smash hit " Only In The Night " produced by Lewis Martinee of Expose fame catapulted it's way to # 2 onto the Billboard charts and became an instant classic across dance floors around the world, after 2 years of touring off the success of " Only In The Night ", The Voice In Fashion released " Give Me Your Love " to international acclaim adding more fuel to an already hot touring schedule, soon after The Voice In fashion were invited to back up the legendary New Wave / Dance group " The Pet Shop Boys " on their " Domino Dancing " release and toured Brazil.
